Workshop - Complex Scenes
I took an online workshop with the wonderful Montreal based artist Shari Blaukopf. The workshop was about simple solutions for a complex scene using a reference photos of a boat harbor with many overlapping boats and ripples across the water. The main take-aways were how to plan using large, simple shapes and how to paint those shapes as one rather than small pieces. The other excellent learning was the the discipline of using a limited palette of just three colors - Ultramarine Blue, a medium Yellow (I used New Gamboge but Shari uses Hansa Yellow) and Permanent Alizarin Crimson to achieve unity. I was happy with the result especially the harmony between the sky and water.
